I had my day planned until Coreen texted early, suggesting a meeting to discuss the 'collaboration'....so plans happily changed. Thoroughly enjoyed discussing 'stuff'', drinking Chai Tea (another first) and seeing her new work. When suddenly she suggested seeing "IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK..." Her husband is involved in this and its an installation of writing by the women of Breightmet, Bolton. In collaboration with Bolton at Home's East Neighbourhood Management Team, A Poet - Louise Wallwein and supporting Artists: Paul Gent (Wall Graphics), Jennifer Gilmour (Textiles), Mel Harris (Sound Recording and Mark Haig (Sound Installation) these women have created a unique and deeply moving installation in a house. Covering the walls and cushions and duvets with their words and stories and poems.....open the cutlery draw and you hear memories of kitchens and homes of their past in their own voices.....sit on the chair in the bedroom, look in the mirror and you hear the voices of the women and thoughts about self.....walk into the childrens bedroom and hear them tell you what they are good at.....turn around and see Blake's heartbursting drawing of himself and his family. Scattered amongst the writing on the walls are handprints containing written secrets. Their honesty and their heart is beautiful......these women sharing in their own words snippets of life, love and laughter is so poignant and moving and humbling and inspiring and ..... a testimony to the joy and heartbreak and endurance of our everyday lives.
