Off to see my beautiful friends B and Ric, in their beautiful house in beautiful Wales ...... Im like a kid bursting to get there!!  But, as usual Im on the last minute with a deadline ......Ric is a Poet and a Musician and he asked me to do 20 more crow studies that may be used alongside his poetry.  I did a couple and thought there's loads of time before we go ..... but nooooo! .... here I am with one available day left and 14 still to do. Why O Why do I do this???
In the photo you can see my Grandad's Billy Can that I use when Im painting in watercolour and my beloved stick, which I seem to be using more than brushes recently........ok, better get back and stop procrastinating.............x

This morning saw another Book Project Meeting at the lovely Malt Bar in Bury.  I am so inspired by this collaboration with my fellow Artists and all the connections that are being made ...LOVE IT.

Whilst there I sold 2 more painting !! and had one commissioned .......... BUT......

The cherry on top of my morning was meeting 2 lovely women who bought my work..... Helena (sorry Ive forgotten the true spelling :(   ) and Jenny.  Its always great when your work sells ....obviously financially ....but also because its like an endorsement that who you are and what you create can touch someone so much that they want to have it in their lives!!  Uplifting and humbling all at the same time.
But, whats even better is when you meet the person who wishes to buy .....its a given that there is a connection, coz theyve responded to your work and somehow conversation has a level of intimacy that often convention dictates otherwise with a 'stranger'.  Not sure how to describe it without sounding a wee bit cheesy but there is something magical?....chemical?....that occurs.... ?
The past couple of weeks has felt like wading through mud with buckets on my feet ...... this morning was the BEST antedote :) .............. x

Stage 2 ... and ... another unexpected and slightly more unpleasant event.......

Who'd have thought I'd love portraits?? .... Not the greatest attempt but Im learning so much from this .... there is a part of me that feels so at home with this process and the challenges lay in a different place than I expected.....not with my eyes and my medium ....but in trusting the third part of the triad that David Hockney often refers to .....the heart.  I remember the first time I heard him say - "The hand, the eye and the heart" ..... I was like a footballer who'd just scored a goal!  Well, I didnt go so far as to pull my t-shirt over my head and slide on my knees ..... but I did clench my fist, pump my arm and shout 'YES'.
I LOVE YOU DAVID HOCKNEY X
The unpleasant part came when the phone rang as I was painting and made me jump out of my skin - splashing deep maroon paint all over her sweet cheek and shoulder.....managed to save the cheek but not the shoulder alas...........note to self.....switch phone off when working.......

Went for a late evening walk and visited the tree we scattered my Mum's Ashes under last December.  It is an enormous, ancient Copper Beech, now in full bloom....soooo beautiful and full of 'ent-ish' presence.   I noticed the lovely patterns at its base and took a photograph .... Only now do I see the little person hugging it !!!!

Clitheroe and Chris Mcloughlin....

Went to Clitheroe Castle today to see Chris Mcloughlin's inspiring exhibition - A GRAND PERSPECTIVE.  He is an en plein air artist hero of mine.....and this body of work has been inspired by the Forest of Bowland and surrounding areas.  The views from the Castle were awesome ....it was a blustery, stormy day and on top of the battlements it was literally breathtaking.  The 'views' inside the Steward's Gallery were equally breathtaking.... Chris's work is rich and luscious and he can capture the expansive beauty of a place in a few bold and beautiful brushstrokes.  If you can get to see his work you will not be disappointed!  His exhibition is until 11th July ....11am and 4pm daily ..... and the views from the castle and the surrounding walks and gardens are beautiful too.
